The Humane Society of Montgomery County has many opportunities for volunteering to help the animals.

HSMC SHELTER
Volunteering at the shelter consists of socializing our cats and dogs. Basically just walking dogs and petting cats! We welcome anyone to come during our office hours. You do not need to call or email to volunteer unless you have a group of people. Please note that people of all ages are welcome to volunteer but children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent at all times.
You do not need to make an appointment unless you have a group (4 or more people at a time). Groups must call the shelter to schedule an appointment at least 5 days in advance to set up a date and time to keep traffic at a minimum.

Directions to the Shelter
From Blacksburg:
Take N.Franklin St. (460 East Buisness) into downtown Christiansburg. At the
intersection of Franklin and Main streets, turn right onto West Main. Follow
West Main (Route 8) south approximately one mile and pass under the I-81 bridge.
Take the first right onto Flanagan Drive. The HSMC shelter is the first driveway
on the left.
From Christiansburg:
Travel to the intersection of Franklin Road and Main St. Follow West Main (Route
8) south approximately one mile and pass under the I-81 bridge. Take the first

From Radford:
Take I-81 North to exit 114 in Christiansburg. At the exit, turn right onto
Route 8 South. Take the first right onto Flanagan Drive. The HSMC shelter is the
first driveway on the left.
SECOND TIME AROUND STORE: Our store in Blacksburg is in need of extra hands to help price, stock, and sell items. Remember, all proceeds go directly to the animals at the shelter. For more information please contact the Second Time Around at 540-951-4327.
VT Football Concessions:
I know it’s been HOT HOT HOT but can you believe it is time to think about cool weather and Football! Last year, over $15,000 was raised to help support the animals at the shelter and we could not do it without the help of our dedicated volunteers and student groups who help fill in. It takes about 23 people to staff the football concession stand so we need as many of you as we can get, even if you can only work a game or two.
Please look over the schedule below, where I’ve listed the dates and times of the games as well as the times that we need our volunteers to show up. We need volunteers two and a half hours earlier than game time, the stand opens two hours before the game starts and we need to have things set-up and ready.
We only have times on 3 of the 7 games right now; but the Saturday games tend to be at noon or in the early afternoon. All games in 2010 are on Saturday except for the November 4th game, which is on Thursday evening. I will get back with you on the games that do not have start times as of yet or you can check online at www.hokiesports.com .
Let me know as soon as you can what dates you are able to work so that I can fill up our rosters. Please consider working even if you have to leave a little early. We need all of you. I thank you, and the dogs and cats at the shelter thank you as well!
